Background

CONSCISE is funded by the European Commission's Framework V programme;

Under the Key Action - Improving the Socio-Economic Knowledge Base.

Start date March 2000.

Over the project's three year life, research partners in England, Scotland, Germany, Sweden and Spain will be working together to examine the way in which social enterprises in the social economy contribute to the growth of social capital and facilitate local development in their locality.

MAIN CONCEPTS
The project is divided into 8 inter-related workpackages. The aim of first workpackage is to providing working definitions and measures of the key concepts;

  • Social Enterprise
  • Social Economy
  • Social Capital
These definitions and measures will be utilised in augmented local socio-economic profiling and social auditing techniques. These techniques will be used for data collection in 8 locations within the partner countries. The final results will be presented at the CONSCISE conference early in 2003.
